Youth Councellor
Position Concept:
The program you would be working in is one of our Outdoor Therapeutic Programs or "Camps". You would be training in a Youth Councelor/Teacher position which is a residential, live-in position where you would live and work on-site 24 hours a day, 5 days a week in a wilderness setting.
The Job:
* 24 hours a day, 5 days a week.
* During each 5 day shift, you will live with one specific group.
The Kids:
* The ages of our clients range in age from 10 to 18. There are 8 to 12 kids per group with 2 to 3 counselors per group. Our smallest camps have 3 groups and our largest camps have 7 groups on the camp grounds.
* Some are court-ordered to our camps by Dept. of Juvenile Justice, some are referred by community based programs like Dept of Children and Family Services and some are paid for privately by their parents.
* Some of the kids have strong home environments, some have been neglected, and some have been in foster care.
* Some are at-risk of countinuing down a negative path with the unlawful or risky behaviors or at-risk of dropping out of school.
* The average length of stay for the youth is10-15 months.
Salary:
* The salary for this position is $23,600/year plus free room and board. Your benefits begin 61 days after employment.
Responsibilities:
* You are a role model, mentor, and you will lead them by your example. You will be a parental type figure in their lives.
* We are an accredited school and we provide theme-based, experiential education to our kids.
* You plan activities with your kids to complement the theme.
* You will assist teachers, tutor kids.
* You are a facilitator of gorup discussions and team building exercises.
* You are responsible for maintaining your camp-site.
* You will monitor the progress of each of your clients and may need to sit in on meetings to discuss he progress or submit reports.
* You are always ensuring the safety of your kids with whatever you do or ar involved in.
